What happens when we arrive at our lodge?

Our camp manager will welcome you at the airstrip and direct you to the camp, which is a short boat or bus ride away. At the camp a staff member will direct you to the main lodge where you will obtain your fishing license; get your cabin/room assignment and enjoy a lunch buffet. Then it is time to meet your guide and go fishing! Your luggage is delivered to your cabin for you.

When should I get a fishing license?

If you do not have one, you must purchase a fishing license upon arrival at your lodge. Though prices are subject to change, the costs are:

  • Great Slave Lake: $40.00
  • Great Bear Lake: $50.00
  • Tree River: $20.00
  • Coppermine: $20.00

What clothes do I bring?

  • Gloves
  • Warm pants
  • Thermal underwear - top and bottom
  • Socks (avoid cotton)
  • Long sleeved shirts and t-shirts
  • Wool or polar fleece sweater
  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Winter hat / sunhat
  • Warm / Waterproof gloves / mitts
  • Boots / Casual Shoes
  • Casual Clothes for the lodge
  • Sunscreen and Lip Balm with UV protection

What else should I bring?

  • Identification (Driver's License and Birth Certificate or Passport)

How much luggage am I allowed to bring?

Your luggage must not exceed 45 lbs - excluding rod, reel, tackle

Should I bring food?

Everything you require for consumption is made available to you at the lodge. (Beer, liquor, wine and pop can be purchased at the lodge.) There is no need to pack beer, pop or food that will add to the weight of your bag. If you are worried that we might not have something you want, please call the office and we can discuss alternative arrangements.

What is your Hug and Release policy?

Because of the cold waters & age of the fish, guests have requested that our lodges become total catch and release. A 20lb. fish is an estimated 50 years old & a 50lb. fish is an estimated 100 years old. Starting 2001, there will be no eating fish taken home by guests. Fish grow approximately 2 pounds in their first 10 years and 1/2 pound per years after that. Plummer's fishing guides will continue to prepare & serve their famous shore lunches. These are the necessary steps to assure a long future of quality fishing. Should you have any questions or concerns in regards to this policy, we'd be happy to hear from you.

Is there radio communication?

We have tried using 2-way radios for easy communication from our boats to the lodge, but the terrain and distances involved make this difficult. You are welcome to bring your own for inter-boat communication or a satellite telephone.

Is my stay in Edmonton or Yellowknife (outside of the lodge) part of the cost of the package?

We would be happy to suggest places to stay while traveling. Plummer's would be happy to make arrangements on your behalf, though the cost of the hotel stay is your responsibility. It is also imperative that hotel reservations are made as early as possible due to limited space.

Can I make or receive phone calls from the lodges?

Each of our lodges are now equipped with a satellite phone and is available for use at the lodge at a cost of $5.00 per minute. Should anyone need to reach you while on your trip, have them contact the Plummer's office and we will forward the information to you at the lodge.

What if I have to cancel my trip?

We now offer trip cancellation insurance in order to protect your investment and to avoid further rate increases due to cancellations. Please contact our office for more specific information.

When do I settle my bill?

The package trip is prepaid. Miscellaneous charges such as your store/lounge tabs and fishing license are settled the evening before you leave. Statements are available from the lodge manager. Cash, Cheque, Visa, MasterCard are accepted.

What would happen in case of emergency?

Each of our lodges have trained First Aid personnel on staff should you require medical assistance. In severe circumstances, we can either fly you to the Stanton Yellowknife Hospital or have Medi-Vac aircraft sent from Yellowknife with a doctor and equipment on board.

Are fly-outs available?

Daily fly-outs are available at some of the lodges and vary from year to year. You sign up for these trips at the lodges on a first come, first serve basis. Ask your camp manager for rates and availability

How much should we tip and to who?

We include this section because we are asked this question every year. Tips should be based on GREAT SERVICE; tip what you are comfortable with and believe to be fair. Tips should be paid directly to your guides as cash or check and the hospitality staff tips should be handed to the camp manager to distribute to the all the great folks that serve our guests.

What are the guide's hours?

Your guide will be ready to leave the main dock at 8:00am and return to camp at approximately 5:30pm. You can hire your guide for night fishing for a reasonable hourly rate. For liability reasons, guests are not permitted to operate their own boats.

Is there a dress code?

There is no dress code for the lodge. We are very casual - come as you are!

Is there internet at the lodges?

There is high speed internet at all lodges that is available for a fee. Please be advised that it is satellite internet in the arctic and is not a 100%, 24/7 reliable connection depending on sunspots and weather.
